Spotted Palmfly Butterfly Chrysalis

Posted by
itchydogimages (Pu'er, China) on 13 July 2012 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

(Elymnias malelas, Satyrinae, Nymphalidae)
I found this stunning chrysalis in my backyard while clearing old palm fronds from the trees. It has no girdle or harness to support its midriff like many butterfly pupae but was securely wrapped in the dry frond leaf.
I know what it is because the adult butterfly emerged soon after finding it. I will reveal that in a future post.....
